Welcome to MediaNest. Your privacy is our top priority. MediaNest is designed as a privacy-first, local-first media player and manager. We believe your personal media—your photos, videos, and music—should remain private and under your complete control.
Summary: MediaNest operates entirely on your device. We do NOT collect, upload, sell, or share your personal files, photos, videos, audio recordings, or personal data to any external server or third party.
Device Permissions & Usage
To provide media playback, floating picture-in-picture, audio visualization, and folder scanning, MediaNest requests the following permissions:
1. Granular Media Access (`READ_MEDIA_IMAGES`, `READ_MEDIA_VIDEO`, `READ_MEDIA_AUDIO`)
- Purpose: Used via Android's native MediaStore API to scan, index, organize, and play your local photos, videos, and audio files.
- Data Handling: All media indexing and playback occurs strictly on your device. No file content or personal media is ever uploaded or transmitted over the internet.
2. Audio Recording / Microphone (`RECORD_AUDIO`)
- Purpose: Used exclusively to analyze real-time audio frequency waveforms for rendering live audio visualizers during music playback.
- Data Handling: Audio frequency data is processed transiently in device RAM only. No audio is ever recorded, saved, or uploaded.
3. Foreground Service (`FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK`)
- Purpose: Enables uninterrupted background audio playback and floating picture-in-picture (PiP) video playback when using other apps or when the screen is off.
4. Bluetooth & System Notifications
- Bluetooth (`BLUETOOTH_CONNECT`): Detects connected wireless headphones or Bluetooth audio devices for seamless media routing.
- Notifications (`POST_NOTIFICATIONS`): Displays active playback controls (play, pause, skip, artwork) in your notification shade and lock screen.
Analytics & Telemetry
MediaNest uses Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage metrics and crash diagnostics to help improve app stability and playback performance across Android devices.
- No Personal Information: Firebase Analytics does not track or store your media files, filenames, photos, or personally identifiable data.
- User Opt-Out: You can enable or disable anonymous analytics at any time directly inside the app under Settings > Anonymous Telemetry & Analytics.
Children's Privacy
MediaNest does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13. The app is a local utility media player designed for general audiences.

We may update our Privacy Policy periodically. Any changes will be published on this page with an updated effective date.
